Author of the novels The Cosmopolitans (2015) Neti, Neti (2009) and Lunatic in my Head (2007), the short fiction collection Difficult Pleasures (2012), and the book of poems Street on the Hill (2006).

Lunatic in my Head and Neti, Neti appeared from Brass Monkey Books, Australia, the latter under the title Big Girl Now. A Swedish translation of Neti, Neti appeared as Bort, Bort from Ordfront publishers. Street on the Hill appeared as Gata På Toppen Av En Ås in Norwegian.

My books have been nominated for various awards including the Man Asian Literary Prize, the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature, the Hindu Best Fiction Award and the Crossword Fiction Award. My short stories, essays and poems are widely published including in Granta and Griffith Review, as well as in Five Dials, Wasafiri, Drawbridge, Los Angeles Review of Books, Asia Literary Review and anthologies such as A Clutch of Indian Masterpieces: Extraordinary Short Stories from the 19th Century to the Present, Language for a New Century: Contemporary Poetry From the Middle East, Asia and Beyond, The Bloodaxe Book of Contemporary Indian Poets and The Popcorn Essayists: What Films do To Writers.

Currently books editor at The Caravan, India’s leading magazine of long-form reporting and essays.
